Until Jennifer Lawrence fell up the stairs at the Oscars, I hadn't really heard much about Silver Linings Playbook. Lawrence won the Oscar Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role, and Bradley Cooper, Robert De Niro, and Jacki Weaver were all also nominated for their parts in the film. It did so well that our local Playhouse cinema brought it back for one showing, so we went along last night. I didn't really know what to expect - all I'd heard about it was that it addressed mental health issues & a dance competition. It was SO brilliant! It was incredibly funny in parts, and was just one of those films where not a whole lot happened if you summarised it to a friend, and yet it was so engaging, entertaining, and heart lifting! I fell a little bit in love with Bradley Cooper, and love how Lawrence is not your typical holiday size 0, crazy cheekbones 'attractive' - she's so much more real & honest, and beautiful. The relationship between the family was so real in parts, especially De Niro. Also, the soundtrack is awesome, including Always Alright, Alabama Shakes, Buffalo, Alt-j and Rare Earth, Hey Big Brother. It's a really great film that I would definitely recommend even if just for the brilliance that is the dance competition scene - pure genius.
P.S! I'm leaving for Berlin in 7 hours (Ahhh!) so won't be posting for a few days :-) X
