American Apparel

This is a brand I've had problems with before; it seems like really basic clothing at crazy prices. I preferred the cheapness of H&M, the quirky-ness of Urban Outfitters, and the reliability of always being able to find something in Topshop. But then I realised I've been approaching shopping at American Apparel completely wrong! As a lover of prints and interesting textures/cuts, the simple lines and plain colouring of most of the clothing really underwhelmed me. But what American Apparel is brilliant for is getting basics that you can wear with everything. Whenever I buy strap tops or t-shirts from Topshop claiming their an essential, after a few months I realise the cut is not very flattering and I barely wear these "essentials". An American Apparel basic is a basic you will keep. I have a tendency to buy far too many black three quarter tops, none of which really suit me; while this pullover may not seem a practical alternative, it has everything I would want from a top like this. Warmth, long sleeves, a high neckline, fairly baggy but still possible to tuck into shorts or skirts. £30 may seem a lot, but compared to the amount of tops I've bought and will undoubtedly throughout, it would've saved time & hassle! & it's not all basics! They have some really interesting pieces, so have a scout through the website, it's worth a look.

Here are some of my current favourite Apparel items; one day I will have the confidence to wear a velvet crop top! (Just not quite yet.....)
