Christmas Countdown

Normally, I am the bringer of Christmas joy in my house from around September... Although I'm not religious, and don't particularly like how commercial the whole event is, I love that it is the one time of year where people are nice to each other for absolutely no reason. Even just walking home after work, seeing Christmas trees in windows, fairy lights around doors, and people holding hands in mittens is a lovely thing. Last year I was so on the Xmas countdown - I had my advent calendar a week in advance, on the 1st of december I had my first Starbucks Gingerbread latte with a free mince pie, and I practically built a paper chain factory in my front room; the house was stuffed with them! This year, for some reason I've been rubbish! I haven't even thought about shopping, I've got 14 days, and I am not at all bothered... So, in an attempt to get me into the Christmas spirit I've made a list of things to sort me out! If you are likewise struggling to stay merry, I hope this helps :-)

Christmas Joy Essentials
1. Watch Love Actually. Or Elf. Or The Polar Express - whatever your family Christmas classic is, watch it! White Christmas is a particularly heart warming one if you don't have this tradition in your house. Snuggle up & enjoy!
2. Whack out the woolies. Embrace the cold! I've got a selection of hats, mittens, and thousands of scarfs that I pile on. They all clash, and I can never answer my phone through all the wool, but I'm warm, and you look the part. That's key!
3. Christmas music. Although it can be irritating, there are some classics I can't help but love. Mariah Carey - All I Want For Christmas, Elton John - Step Into Christmas, and Coldplay - Christmas Lights, are my faves
4. Food. This one is pretty easy; Christmas is about eating way too much. So start now. A midday mince pie & mulled wine is more than acceptable, and if that one glass turns into three, then the more the merrier!
5. Be grateful. If you really can't raise some cheer, then at least be grateful for what you have. Although you may get annoyed at relatives/friends, remember how lucky & how loved you are. At least then you're heart's in the spirit of the season, even if you can't be bothered with snowmen or stockings.
