Shop Sizing

Today I bought a dress labelled a size 8. An 8. It's fair to say I have not been a size 8 since I was about 8 years old, and unless the ridiculous amount of food I ate yesterday decided to evaporate from my waist then my conclusion is shops are so wrong. My wardrobe ranges from a size 6 dress I've had for absolutely years, to size 16 jumpers & tops from sales & charity shops. What really gets on my nerves is when people say 'I really want to be a size 10'. When really the question is, where!? A Topshop 10 might be a H&M 14, or a Zara Medium would be a River Island 8, how are you ever meant to get perspective!? So don't get fixated on the numbers. Weight & dress size vary - you might not be your ideal weight, but you might be more toned than you've ever been! Exercising and eating well doesn't always equal weight loss (muscle does weigh more than fat), but will equal inch loss. So, instead of measuring myself by shop sizes, I've got a few staple pieces of clothing which I know will tell me if I'm gaining/loosing weight. But with this comes another piece of advice - if you try the size you think you are, and it doesn't feel quite right, try a smaller/larger! I often end up buying sizes too big, because in my head, that is the size I should be. Where's the logic! But same goes the other way, I never buy clothes in my regular size if they feel too tight - don't be afraid to try the next size up. Shops vary, each garment will be different, and it really doesn't matter
Comfortable = Confident!
